Former Pakistani cricketer and well-known commentator Rameez Raja has said that if his son had been fixing matches instead of Mohammad Amir, he would have given up on him.
According to the Hindustan Times, while giving an interview to a TV channel, Ramiz Raja expressed disappointment over Mohammad Amir’s return to international cricket.
Talking about Muhammad Amir’s return to international cricket, Rameez Raja said, “My opinion about Muhammad Amir is very clear. I am not sworn to fix cricket, but I think it is important to understand society and the fans.
Ramiz Raja added, “When he (Muhammad Amir) got involved in fixing, I was commentating in the Lord’s Test, and I felt the serious hatred coming my way because I was pointing out the fixers.” I can’t forget the amount of hatred that the media has subjected me to.
He further said that wherever tainted (fixing) cricketers are found in the world, they are generally expelled. I sympathize with them, but forgiveness is not in my book.
The ex-chairman of PCB further said that if my son had done something like this, I would have been indifferent to him.
When Ramiz Raja was the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), he maintained a strong stance against players who harmed the reputation of the game.
During his tenure as PCB chairman, Mohammad Amir stayed out of the team and even had to retire.
