Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced a protest today against the alleged rigging in the general elections.
PTI leader Hamad Azhar wrote in a tweet on the X account that “There will be a peaceful protest at GPO Chowk in Lahore today at 2 pm.”
Apart from this, he also posted a list of protest locations in different cities of Punjab.
The newly elected President Asif Ali Zardari will take his oath of office today in the President’s House. Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa will take oath from Asif Zardari.
Yesterday, Asif Ali Zardari, the candidate of the ruling alliance, was elected as the president for the second time with 411 votes. His opponent Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the joint candidate of Sunni Unity Council and Pashtun Khawa Milli Awami Party, got 181 votes.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, 1044 votes were cast out of a total of 1185 electoral votes for the presidential election. 92 seats, including reserved seats, are still vacant while the presiding officers rejected a total of nine votes.
