Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reached Saudi Arabia on his first official visit after assuming office. In this visit, he is also expected to meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached Madinah on Saturday evening from Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore by commercial flight. Governor Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz welcomed them at the Amir Muhammad bin Abdullah Airport in Madinah.
In this visit, the members of the federal cabinet—Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Privatization Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema—are accompanying the Prime Minister.
Apart from this, Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif is also accompanying the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister will stay in Madinah tonight. They will offer prayers in Masjid Nabawi and visit Rasool’s grave.
The Prime Minister will stay in Saudi Arabia from April 6 to 8, and during this time he will also perform Umrah.
Saudi Arabia is home to more than 2.7 million Pakistani expatriates and is the largest source of remittances to Pakistan.
On Friday, the Foreign Office, while announcing the Prime Minister’s visit, said in a statement that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is expected to meet with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, in which matters of mutual interest will be discussed. .
The Foreign Office said, “The leadership of both countries is committed to advancing brotherly relations and mutually beneficial economic and investment relations.”
The Saudi government has not yet commented on the visit or its agenda.
Shahbaz Sharif last traveled to Saudi Arabia in October 2022 during his first term as prime minister. During this visit, he met the Crown Prince and also attended the Saudi Future Investment Initiative Summit.
