On Sunday, the police rescued a woman from the clutches of a mob that was enraged because of her dress in the Achhra area of Lahore, Pakistan.
According to Lahore Police, the situation turned tense at a cafe in Achhra Bazar around 1 pm when people started objecting to a woman’s clothes. Some words were written in Arabic calligraphy on the woman’s clothes, which people believed to be sacred words.
According to the police, the woman had come to have dinner with her husband when she faced this situation.
However, her husband called the police emergency helpline, after which ASP Gulberg Syeda Shahrabano Naqvi reached the spot with a police team. By the time the police arrived, the crowd had dispersed and chanting was going on.
This incident was recorded by different people on their mobile phones. In a video, ASP Shehrbanu Naqvi can be seen addressing the angry crowd and warning them not to take the law into their hands and trust the police. After which she goes in and manages to cover the woman’s face and pull her out of the crowd in her arms.
