The News reported on Monday that Ali Amin Gandapur, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and the chief minister-in-waiting for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has chosen not to join the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in order to compete independently for the top provincial position, with PTI members who are members of the SIC voting for him.
The independent KP victors who were supported by the PTI in the most recent general elections have joined the SIC to take up the seats reserved for women and members of religious minorities.
In the meantime, Gandapur, who defeated Dera Ismail Khan, has filed his candidacy papers with his party and will also run for the position of PTI provincial president during the party’s intra-party elections on March 3.
